The holidays can be a stressful time for many people. Imagine what it might look like if every single person reached out and did one thing for someone else. Think about all of the special people in your life today. Name them off one by one in your mind. Pause on each one for just a second. Is there something you could do to brighten their day? Do they have a need that you can meet? It doesn't have to be huge. It can be, if that is within your ability to reach. But if it's not, anticipating the need and meeting it is more about easing a burden for someone than the size of the gesture.
Surprise someone by anticipating a need…and meeting it. Could you buy some bread, milk, and eggs for a young family with lots of kids? Could you shovel the walk of an elderly neighbor? Could you take someone's dog for a walk that is laid up due to injury/illness? Could you offer to read a book for the local library for story hour? Could you get a group together and go caroling? The gift of our resources, generosity, gratefulness, creativity, and talents would go a long way to making someone else's home a happy home for the holidays.
